Early Christianity and Greek Paideia by Werner Jaeger
The Abolition of Man by C.S. Lewis.
I know there is a trend in the suggestions I am giving you, but I choose them because 1) I hope they are of some interest to you and your readers and I am eager for the chance to hear people's ideas on these books, and 2) being the slow reader that I am, I am more likely to make it through a book of approx. 150-200 pages in a fortnight than a book that is any longer.
